The Long Mynd, and Ludlow

Overcast and bitterly cold, with snow forecast for around 5.00pm, we decided to make the most of the day and set off reasonably early. MrM drove us over Wenlock Edge towards Church Stretton, and then over the Long Mynd (a heath and moorland plateau that forms part of the Shropshire hills). The views of the hills and beyond were spectacular, especially with mist hanging in the valleys. We stopped a couple of times to take photos, and MrM climbed to the top of one of the hills by the road.

Then on to walk around Ludlow, a very picturesque town with lots of ancient buildings. After we'd had a bite to eat we went to Ludlow castle, well worth the fee to English Heritage to look round. Really interesting, with lots of spiral staircases to climb to access upper floors.

The light was fading by the time we walked back to the van, and we arrived back in Much Wenlock ahead of the snow.
