Bubbles in ice

Two odd images today. The main blip is a lump of ice which I tipped out of a dish which had contained water for the birds. The ice is full of bubbles, but why? The extra is a cloudbank which seems to have a dog lying on top of it - a dog in the sky. Pity this isn't silly Saturday.
