Birds of prey

I headed to the valley today, I needed to visit some of the bakeries there. I also wanted to see if there were any eagles around Grand Pre.

I stopped in Grand Pre in the morning, there were a few eagles around that I could see from the road. I suspect there were more near a big manure pile but it would have meant driving on a muddy dyke farm road to get closer to them. I chose not to do that.

Next stop was Miners Marsh for a walk. I'm glad I had crampons with me as the trail was icy. I saw a couple of cardinals, some chickadees and some sparrows. The sparrows were the only ones that sat still long enough for a photo.

I stopped at 3 bakeries. Came home with oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, doughnuts, maple macaroons, double fudge brownies, a chicken salad sandwich for my supper, a loaf of herb and cheese bread, and a container of mushroom lasagna. The lasagna will make 2 meals for me.

On the way home I drove thru Grand Pre again. I spotted these 2 birds sitting in a tree, so I pulled over to get a few photos. When I first saw them I thought it was a pair of young eagles. One flew away and I thought he had too much white on his belly to be an eagle. I grabbed a couple more photos of the one that continued to sit there. When I transferred them to my computer tonight I realized that they are 2 red tailed hawks. I am going to post the photo to the NS Bird Society to confirm that they are red tailed hawks. It is rare to see 2 of them in the same tree.
