Night skating
Few things this magical. A true joy to dip surrounded by the scratch of skates.
In the dark of the night
Torches shine,
Bright into my eyes
Stomping across snow touched ground,
Frost gathered grass,
Hardened soil clumps,
The earth can still create such wonder,
Dragon steam shrouding our heads,
Reverberation of ice,
Whale song across the dub,
Skittering frozen chunks,
Skates at the ready,
Crunch, swoosh,
Moon glowing through clouds allowing,
Colour bled sights,
Reflecting from ebb and flow of snow bundles,
Scattered across thick ice.
A hole, broken by previous dippers,
Swirl thin ice from surface,
Lowering under the ice,
Peering out to see the almost adults,
swirling and falling and skittering on blades,
Scraping through drifts,
What nightly wonder we experience,
A moment to cherish.
