Unusal flowers

These unusual flowers bloom in December or January. The tree is a macasar (wintersweet tree), a tree often associated with gardens and orchards in Granada. It was very common in such gardens in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is not so common now, but I know where to find two beautiful specimens: Parque García Lorca in Granada.

The house in the background belonged to the poet Federico Garcia Lorca. It was the place where he and his family used to spend the summers before he was killed at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

I went to see the macasar this morning before the flowers die. It was a very foggy morning and the photos are a bit dark, but I think the flowers are still beautiful and you will appreciate them.

In the extra you can see the fog on the motorway
