The Language of Food
I have just finished reading this book which I picked up by chance in the library. It is a historical novel based around one of the first cookery book writers…Eliza Acton. I had never heard of her but her books have been praised by present day cooks such as Elizabeth David and Delia Smith. Her book was published in 1845 and she died in 1859. Mrs Beetons famous cookbook came out in 1861 and is now recognised to have included many of Eliza Acton’s recipes. Quite an interesting read reminding one of the conditions in kitchens of those with cooks compared to people living in poor conditions with little income, but rather long winded.
I went to Pilates this morning and it was very cold in the studio, there is something wrong with the heating system. Some people were so cold they left before the end of the class.
This afternoon I took the twins to their swimming lesson, the pool and changing rooms are nice and warm.
I have an annoying cold with a very runny nose so I hope it doesn’t develop into anything worse,
