Tchau, Paraty!
When we arrived in Paraty, we should have been able to walk from the bus station to our pousada in about 12 mins. We tried, but headed off in the wrong direction, caused by a confusion between the correct name of the street, which happens to be the name of a totally different pousada, and a mis-understanding between me and Bb! We were following the GPS for the other pousada. Eventually, we had to get a taxi!
Anyway, today, after breakfast and packing up, we decided to walk to the bus station on a recce, without our bags, and yes, it was an easy 12 min walk! It took us into a part of Paraty just on the outskirts of the historic centre and more everyday-life Paraty. We even found a very very basic market where we’re pretty sure we had a beer with Colleen 20 years ago - coldest beer ever on a sweltering hot day! We enjoy these kinds of areas and after a good old wander, found ourselves outside the restaurant (Chafariz, us in the collage) where we stopped on our first day, lost, trying to find the pousada. A nice circle and so decided to have lunch there, choosing moqueca (fish stew in a kind of tomato sauce). It was delicious and voted the best meal of our stay! We had a last beer in the place round the corner and then back to the pousada and then, you’ve guessed it, took a taxi to the bus station! Felt good to be coming ‘home’ to Rio!
