Just a lad

Famous around these parts, this is a sculpture by Nicholas Dimbleby of James Cook. As a young lad (16 years old) looking towards Staithes where he first felt the lure of the sea. Apparently.

It was commissioned 28 years ago and is positioned on the village green of Great Ayton where he lived aged 8-16. Looking somewhat weathered now.

It’s also the village where we had lunch today with neighbours G&J. And very nice it was too. A pub called The Royal Oak. The sun was shining, quite mild in temperature. A good day.

Then this afternoon I helped Kev over the road get to grips with his new air fryer / combination oven. Not sure I really helped that much but we tried a few things out and I’m sure it will make cooking much easier for him once he’s got used to it.
