Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Seville time

Thursday today - I like to remind myself what day it is, proves both marbles are still working I always say!
I went firstly to a local nursing home to take communion to one of my old ladies. She is (as she often is) without hearing aids at the moment, which makes life challenging. She tells me they know who is taking them though. It seems to be a perennial problem in nursing homes, and not a cheap one, in some cases .
She also tells me she's was born in November 1926, so that means she's 100 - hmmm!. Another of my ladies who went into the hospice a fortnight before Christmas is still there and they are now trying to put together a care package so that she can come home. I'm rather worried about her daughter who is reaching her limit. Her 98 yr old mum is asleep all the time now and when she is at home, her daughter doesn't sleep at all . It's very hard to decide what is best, her daughter cares for her so well but she needs to be cared for too.
I popped into a friend's next for some coffee and catch up, which was nice. Nice just to relax and chat with no agendas .
The tree surgeon came today and took down a couple of diseased and damaged flowering cherries at church. They also took down some of the branches on some of the larger trees which were overhanging the road. We have to have an arborist's report every 3-5 years and then a tree surgeon to carry out the recommendations. None of which come cheap. It's a large expense as well as a responsibility to have trees in our lovely grounds.
This afternoon I finally got around to making the first batch of marmalade. I'm sure I bought the organised two weeks ago so I needed to get around to it. First batch is in extras and it does taste good. I liked to take a small jar to India with me, it's a taste of home with my toast when I'm staying in an hotel for my first(and for the final) few days.
We went out to Côte for either, I had an offer which gave us a limited choice of main courses for £10. I also had a gift voucher which Katy gave me for Mother's Day last year which needed to be used. It was great to have a lovely meal and to have a very small bill at the end of it. We both had French onion soup, there's is delicious. I then had steak fritters and Colin had Moules (in a white wine sauce) frites.
Thank you Katy.
