Sad times
My much-loved Fuji x100 has been on a slow journey to camera heaven all year, and it's been a tragic sight to see!
First the metering went, forcing me to shoot fully manual. Then the preview exposures went crazy, making the LCD screen as good as useless. Then the little viewfinder shutter stuck half-open, meaning no EVF or in-eye previews. Then the autofocus went on the blink, so you never know if it'll snap on immediately or leave you swearing at it for 10 minutes. Oh, and the lens cap got crushed under my friend's foot on a leisurely stroll along the Prinsengracht.
Despite all this, I've still been using the x100 for lots of my blips, and yesterday I took it up onto the mountain, where I think the rain might have finally put it out of its misery. I got home to find it full of condensation so it has spent a day in a bag of rice. Most of the moisture has gone, though the viewfinder is still a bit fogged up, but the main problem is that the electrics seem to be screwed, and none of the buttons on the back are doing what they're supposed to do. Not good.
It's all very frustrating when I have a couple of nice holidays coming up and would love to just take a little camera instead of a big beast of an SLR. Maybe time to start eyeing up that X-Pro 1 again...
