Kendall is here

Baba Time Again

It feels like months since Evan was here. Certainly it was before Christmas, which feels like years ago.

My house is where he can safely regress. He always dons the penguin hat he started wearing when he was two. Tonight we played Obstacles and the Cat Crimes game--a game of deducing which cat broke the flower pot, ate the goldfish, or spilled the coffee cup, based on a set of complicated circumstances. We played his old fantasy game, Planet Nebula.

I offered snacking tomatoes, mini-pizzas (built on English muffins), and a root beer float. He ate everything I put before him, with seconds, and while eating told me about a TV series, "Mr. Beast." Contestants work in teams and win tempting individual prizes if they cheat on their team members, but bigger prizes if they resist the temptation and remain loyal to the team. "I would never hurt my team members," he said. "What's the point of winning stuff if you have nobody to share it with?"

Exactly.
