Ginger in flower

This wild ginger is regarded as a noxious weed. It spreads widely and quickly, and can overwhelm native plants. A year ago I saw a bank covered with wild ginger mixed with privet (another plant which in New Zealand is a weed due to rapid spreading and being associated with causing acute asthma attacks. This rather long bank adjacent to the Manukau Harbour was Auckland Council land and minimal efforts had been made to remove the weeds.
