Hand Knitted

A lovely cushion, in a bonny purple Scottish Heather colour, knitted my my mum. She made us two of these for Christmas.

Knitting is on my list of crafts to learn.  My mum showed me the basics when I was younger but I never got the hand of actually putting the stitches onto the needles....so my mum would start it off for me and I just carried on knitting lots of rows, just in plain knit, I could never do any other kind of stitches.

My granny was a big knitter and we were all guaranteed a jumper for birthdays and Christmases - all different patterns and colours. She had two knitting machines, my granda helped her make them too, and in the 80's/90's, they had a huge knitting operation going, with orders coming in left, right and centre from friends and family.  She was also a great knitter of Arran jumpers and cardigans, several of which I still have back in storage in Scotland.  We could be doing with some of those here in The Hague just now, it's been freezing here this past week or so.

I think it's so nice to have something tangible hand made by those dear to us.
