Heads up*

Somewhere, standing among this crowd, is me along with some 123,000 others in Hampden Park as we watched Denis Law score with his head against England on 2 April 1966. A game Scotland lost by four goals to three, and the only occasion that I saw Denis Law play "live" – as you might say today. England of course went on to win the World Cup later that year, which we are never allowed to forget, but Scotland became "unofficial" world champions on 15 April 1967 when we beat England at Wembley 3-2, which we remind them of at every opportunity. Law scored in that game too. Something he was very good at, winning the Ballon d'Or in 1964. His last game for Scotland was in the 1974 World Cup against Zaire having scored 30 goals in 55 games.

Thanks for the memories Denis.

* Denis Law;  24 February 1940 – 17 January 2025.
