Toutouwai

South Island Robin
I was very excited to have this wee man visit on our bushwalk this morning.  Made the effort of the trek over the hill to the lodge for coffee doubly worthwhile.

New Zealand doesn't have the colourful northern hemisphere Robins, and these wee guys only live in native bush so a sighting is very special.  Also saw a cluster of pihoihoi, which I have only ever seen once before (and that was also in this Nelson Lakes area).

Such a plethora of native bird life spotted today:
weka,
kaka
toutouwai (Robin)
korimako (bell bird)
tui
piwakawaka (fantail)
pipipi (brown creeper)
pihoihoi (pipit)
