Living my dream

By Mima

A quiet day

Everything that happened today was positive. So far at least. What a lovely change from days of late.

It started brilliantly when I woke up from a night-long sleep. And so did Bean. Uninterrupted. Undisturbed. Maybe there were a few snores and a snort or two, but otherwise it was silent. What bliss.

Early morning there was a call from my FFL, who is staying at his crib in Moeraki for the week. Could he come over for the morning? Hell, yes!

We had a wonderful time catching up, talking nonstop, in between mouthfuls of sourdough bread, slices of cheese and pickled onions. The perfect elevenses.

After he had headed away I got stuck into the watering in the tunnelhouse, and found the first tomatoes, and the first of the second flush of strawberries (my plants always take a month off around the turn of the year). Sadly neither tasted as sweet as I had hoped, which I am sure is as a result of so many cloudy days. But they were still better than anything from a shop.

The cucumber plants were smothered in chickweed, and once I released them (and the chooks got the weed) suddenly revealed were a lot of cucs swelling beautifully.

I tied up the tomato plants and the carnation flowers, pinched out side shoots, and generally pottered. While I was doing so, Bean was snoozing in the truck.

She is sleeping even more than usual, and I expect it will take her a good few days to recover from the last week+ of acute illness.

Having three meals a day is lovely for her. And her guts are working properly again, to my relief. In fact she performed perfectly, right in front of me at the very moment I was talking to E the vet on the phone. E phoned (on a Sunday) to check on Bean's progress. I am seriously impressed.

Touch wood this is the start of gentler times for Beanio, and fewer emotional ups and downs for me.

Many thanks for all the wonderful support you have given. We are fortunate girls Chez Mima and Bean.
