The A-Peeling Illumination Of A Curly Wurly Smile
Today's shot is another collection of random items and objects compiled for blip purposes (but hopefully not as badly as one of my preceding efforts - i.e my previous blip from 17/12/2024).
I knew I had the elements I 'needed' as soon as I came across the translucent smiley face, the image of the semi-peeled orange and of course the Curly Wurly badge, with illumination provided by a stray fairy light from our Christmas tree.
The Curly Wurly, the iconic chocolate coated caramel sweet treat, whose shape resembles three flattened, intertwined serpentine rings, was created by David John Parfitt, a long-serving research confectioner based at Cadbury's Bourneville factory, whilst he was experimenting with some surplus toffee from another confectionary creation and was launched to the market in 1970.
It brings back happy memories from my childhood because I always remember having to chew it for so long the my jaw ached (can you actually have a joyful jaw ache?) - as the mission statement on the badge clearly confirms it "out chews them all"!
There is even a mention of the term in the Bruce Springsteen song Blinded By The light - with they lyric "And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly, And asked if I needed a ride" - albeit this refers to a whimsical or playful way to describe a fancy or stylish car rather than chocolate coated caramel confectionery! :-)
