A Rant

These rather boring looking shrubs are Silk Tassel bushes (Garrya elliptica). The whole point of growing them is for their wonderful long catkins which in late winter do indeed look like silk tassels. Alas, the municipal 'gardeners' have seen fit to cut the shrubs back removing all the catkins.

An advantage of lockdown was that the the shrubs achieved their full glory.
