Sinking
A walk this morning from Hest Bank, it was bleakly fascinating. In this image what seems to be the remnants of a jeep slowly sinking below the surface as the sea seeps back into the bay. As the sea returned it brought rafts of eider duck and some wigeon, and up in the air Knott displaced by the incoming tide looking for new feeding areas.
I returned via Carnforth - I thought I would have a look at the railway station. The film Brief Encounter, now 80 years old, was partly filmed here. The heritage centre was closed, so I will have to return.
I then stopped at the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, only 2 miles from the caravan but I’ve never been inside. A quite bizarre range of animals, focussing (rightly) on those that are endangered in the wild. More interesting than I had imagined. I have mixed feelings about zoos, but it’s a sad fact that zoos will become increasingly necessary if some species threatened with extinction are to survive. And for children there is nothing like seeing real animals. Having said that this one on a cramped site next to the A6 is an oddity.
And then this evening the reason why I have come to the caravan on a drab, cold January weekend. A show at The Coro in Ulverston about Laurel and Hardy led by Neil Brand, who is a silent film piano player (there aren’t that many people in 2025 who can claim a 40 year career doing that). It’ was fascinating. I took a pic during the interval, extra.
