Joining Up the Bits

The villages of Clearbrook and Horrabridge in West Devon are both on the Devon Way Trail. The distance separating them is about 4 miles. Making a circular walk today was not really practical so my return followed sections of the outward route giving a total distance walked of around 8 miles.
I have walked most of today's route in the past so already know it quite well. It does not really have any spectacular landmarks but having said that it is not without interest. There is a river, woodland, a disused railway, old cottages, a leat and the remains of a granite tramway. You also pass the site of an old WWII RAF station. During the war a variety of aircraft and aircrew from many nationalities flew missions from RAF Harrowbeer to  protect convoys from attack by E-Boats and U-Boats, and later to escort bombers on missions against targets around the Brest Peninsula.
