Saw A Sawbill

A bit of brightness appeared around lunchtime so I decided to visit Fishers Green again. The male goosander was nearer to the wobbly bridge and with better light and my 800mm lens, I got the above shot. The plumage around its tail looks like fish scales.

A pair of great crested grebes were ducking, diving and calling gutturally together. I've added an image of one to extras.

A Lee Valley Park person told me the bittern had been seen so I climbed the tower to search for it. Dave, a very knowledgeable birder, was up there and at one point thought that he had spotted it. I photographed a female shoveler and pair of Egyptian geese in flight from the tower. The first in-flight shots I've taken with the 800mm since I bought it last June. (Extras)
