Newark Castle and the River Trent.
Newark has always been an important location for trade and was the site of an important battle in the English Civil War.
The excellent museum has an interesting exhibition relating to TE Lawrence (of Arabia) and another military connection is the fact that Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead (played by Michael Caine in the film Zulu) was educated in Newark on Trent.
I do love a bit of irrelevant education :))
