The Lawman

Mrs CBL and I were in Aberdeen this morning to do some shopping and buy some messages.  As always coffees and cakes were enjoyed along the way.

We went our separate ways for a short while as I walked the short distance from the shopping mall up  to Marischal Square. It was there that I took a photo of a statue for today’s Blip.

It is of Denis Law, a Scottish footballing legend and Manchester United’s ‘King of the Stratford End’.  Nicknamed ‘The Lawman’ he was a proud Aberdonian and  a childhood hero of mine.

In his ‘glory days’ at United he scored 171 goals in 301 appearances.  In 1965 he was voted European Footballer of the Year, winning the Ballon d’Or.  He was capped for Scotland on 55 occasions and scored 30 goals.

His death on Friday was as a consequence of him having suffered from vascular dementia over the past three years.  Denis was someone who truly deserved his legendary status and as well as being a sporting great he was a true gentleman.
