Science Project

Hetty has been off school since about last Thursday due to Chickenpox. She has not appeared to be ill but is covered, head to ankles in itchy spots. She's doing a great job at keeping cheerful and not scratching, she's a brave girl.
Today she got it into her head that she would like to try some science. She has been doing her Numbots while she's off school, and reading her weekly changing reading book, but something triggered this science idea.
Looking on the internet she found one that involved the sweets 'Skittles', a large dinner plate, and water.
So this photo is us off to The local Tesco Express to get a couple of bags of Skittles. It's only a 10 minute walk so I never take the car. Hetty wanted to take her bike as she's not ridden it during the winter rainstorms and ice. She kept stopping, particularly at road crossings, to let me catch up.
Back home she got a dinner plate out, arranged a circular row of Skittles around the outside edge of the plate. I found her a thin syringe, from an old medicine bottle purchase, and she used that to drip water onto each Skittle, it's a lot of Skittles!
The result, which I never thought to photograph, was a colourful pattern from each Skittle to the centre of the plate when all of the colours merged.
Hetty found it really interesting to do, setting it up and carrying out the experiment. She was really thrilled with the result, and then ate all of the Skittles and licked the plate clean HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
