hit & run
I witnessed a hit and run tonight. The familiar screech of tires and metal slammed into me while I was standing across the street not 7 feet away. I was outside trying to do a last minute blip- you know- another boring picture of a lightpost- when I looked back at my building and this guy hits a truck tire dead on. He pulls out of it, his tire almost off and then hits the gas to fly out of the way like a bat out of hell. My ridiculous good faith in strangers allowed me to watch the guy pull out of the accident then into an ally (where I thought he was going to stop) and then fly away, grinding metal. The whole time I have my camera. While I think the guy is stopping, I had no inkling to get his licensed plate until he drives off. I need to be more skeptical of strangers- if I wasn't enough already.
I gave a statement to the police and was told they found the car without the tire but the man had taken off on foot. This is the girl whos truck got hit- her rear axle is completely bent off. I apologize for the blurry picture again, but documenting was a bit difficult. The best part, about 15 people from neighboring buildings came out to help. That kind of thing doesn't happen in other cities. We had a little bit of a bonding moment, to be perfectly honest.
