In the garden
I photographed this plant in our village garden today. I guessed it was a Zamia (Cycad). Google Lens did better, and told me it is Zamia furfuracea. Which Wikipedia told me comes from Mexico and is commonly called Cardboard Palm or Cardboard Sago. Sadly, it didn't say why the name 'cardboard' is given. This may have to remain one of the little mysteries in the botanical world.
