Wabi-Sabi
Today (so far) and it’s just 10am, no swim or tennis as it has been lashing rain in Dublin.
So I decided to do something I have been putting on the long finger.
(On the long finger. “Ar an mhéar fhada”, as in to postpone something; it comes from the Irish proverb “Cuir gach rud ar an mhéar fhada agus beidh an mhéar fhada róghairid ar ball”, which means “If you put everything on the long finger, then the long finger will be too short in time)
I decided to put a beautiful card sent to me by Soletrader into a frame.
There is something quite wistful about her expression and it appeals to me greatly.
Anyway when I glued the card to the mounting, put it into the frame, turned it around and looked at it, I realised that it was not perfectly centred in frame. Personally that does not bother me. But I got to thinking. Why are some people obsessed with perfection! Why do things have to conform to certain standards!
And then I do what I love to do. I have to burrow. So I googled Japanese philosophy.
And happened upon this

(Please take 5 mins to read link. I enjoyed it).
So I am practising wabi-Sabi and honouring a core oriental ideal.
(That’s my excuse anyway)
And this occurred to me also….
