Dear Clara!
This afternoon I went to a fabulous concert at Cley church with G, H & M. It was about the romance between Robert and Clara Schumann as told in words and music. There were six pieces of music played on piano and two played on piano and flute, with five narrators reading out the story of their romance and brief extracts from a few of their many letters to each other (they wrote over 20,000 letters in total!), read out between the musical pieces. The words were written by and musical pieces chosen by M, H’s very talented husband. I so enjoyed the event, for me I love music interspersed with words, normally telling you about each piece, but telling you a story was so much nicer. It was followed by tea and cake. Just brilliant. It opened with the question, when did you last write someone a letter? My best guess is about 37 years ago, before easy email access and mobile phones / messaging.
This morning I watched both women’s tennis semi finals, really enjoying them, particularly the second with Madison Keys serving brilliantly and showing so much resilience to beat the world No.2 Iga Swiatek in a three set thriller which went to a final set tie-break. I was a bit distracted during the first match as I received a hand delivered letter from Greshams just after 9, saying they’ll be starting the boundary fence changes next Tuesday. They’d previously told me they’d consult with neighbours whose properties abut the land about the type of fencing, but they haven’t and what they’d assured me previously isn’t happening, so I had to fire off a quick email with my issues and requesting that they act as a good neighbour! Not surprised!!!
