Gordon Russel
Sydney Gordon Russel was a furniture designer from Broadway (Worcestershire) designing in the earlyish 20th century . I’d heard of him of course having lived near Broadway for years, but I’d wrongly assumed he was a small local business. But he designed a lot of beautiful furniture in the arts and crafts style, and a whole range of other stuff including chairs for Coventry cathedral, small models of aircraft during the Second World War which airmen used to learn to recognise enemy and friendly planes, utility furniture for post war mass production, and old radio ( Wireless) sets in lovely wooden cabinets.
A fascinating museum with some beautiful pieces, including the Glove Box in the photo.
The usual Stratford Blipper suspects were present, Hildasrose, LooseCanon, Fitzbilly, StevenG Chrispybox and other halves and me of course!
It’s a small place but there is some lovely furniture and some interesting history to discover.
After that we went up to Broadway Tower for lunch and much nattering. A good day out.
