Fan tailed cuckoo

I was late for work this morning.. As the boss and with our prescribed ratios this is not a good thing. The only excuse I could give was “There was this bird…”

I saw it just outside our bedroom window, as still and silent as can be. Of course I ran for the binoculars and then for the camera but it didn’t seem in a hurry to move off. Eventually after posing for me, it flew down to the ground and caught a caterpillar, flying back up higher into the tree with its prize. That’s when I hopped in the shower and got ready for work. Not the first time I have seen it but definitely the first on Oakdale.
