Schengen

…is a small town near Luxembourg, on the river Mosel. And its name stands for open borders in large parts of Europe. Now the German conservative leader Herr Merz plans to close the borders, after another horrible knife attack was committed by a man from Afghanistan. 

So that would be a big step backwards in European history. And it wouldn’t help to avoid more crimes. 

We were so proud of living in a democratic, liberal, open society.

The pictures are taken from a late 17th century atlas. In those days Germany was cut into unnumbered pieces by particularism. Will that become our future?
