These young plants were sown last summer from seeds I harvested from some dark pink hollyhocks, which are my favourite colour. However, I don’t have many of those; the hollyhocks in my garden are mostly pale yellow, almost white, and they self-seed in abundance. 

Why can’t the pink ones do that?
