rain journey
to see my old friend L. This evening we went to Salisbury Playhouse to see Nocturne, Lucy Parham's telling and playing of Chopin's romantic life.
The readings by Alex Jennings and Patricia Hodge from diaries and letters - mostly Chopin's and his lover, George Sand's, but also some from their friends - interspersed with Lucy Parham playing Chopin's music, is a striking and effective way of telling their story.
All, impressively, played from memory, as she did with the music telling Clara Schumann's life a year ago. An excellent evening.
If I'd taken my camera to the theatre, my blip would probably have been of Lucy Parham's silver and Patricia Hodge's gold diamante stilettos. Perplexing footwear.
