The Year of Wood Snake

Today we are going to a party celebrating Chinese New Year 2025. The year of Wood Snake. I read that it's a Chinese tradition to (for good luck) to gift with two of the same. Also for New Years you gift with alcohol, tobacco or money. So alcohol was the most appropriate one to choose. I also included two candles I've made.

We tried to find wine bottles with snakes in label, but there wasn't any available. So I got the idea to find trees and then add the snake myself. Which I did and I think is a nice idea for the hosts.

We only know the couple that invited us. Have no idea what kind of people will be at the party, so it's really nice to get the chance to meet new people out here in the outbacks. 

Best of all, the party starts at 4pm, which is perfect for me. Or I think for anyone with any family life or obligations. I'm always half a sleep by 7 pm, so I salute this.

We've also been asked to send in advance a "song of our life" individually. And then the game is to guess who's song is which. (Will be pretty difficult not knowing anyone, but fun nevertheless.) At the end, the "owner" of the song is revealed and they have to explain why they chose that song. I had dozens of song choices. The very last one that I thought would be The One was Blink 182's "all the small things". Because it's a feel good song, it's true that it's the small things that make us happy or sad and it has the lines:
"Work sucks - I know". :-D

I still chose another one just few hours before sending the text. I'll tell you later what it is, in case my husband happens to read this. My husband struggled with his song choice until late last night and apparently then regretted the one he chose. It will be interesting to see what he chose as we talked about this "dilemma" few times and some of the songs I was talking about, he was considering. He's very competitive so I'm sure he's trying to find a song I can't guess is "his". I'm sure he will recognize mine immediately.
