Big Garden Birdwatch
Today was the day for me for the Big Garden Birdwatch. I set the timer on my phone for 1 hour from 10.00am till 11.00am and settled in the conservatory with a cuppa and toast.
It was very sunny so nice and warm sitting there although there was a snow flurry just before I started.
It was a bit tricky looking into the sun and maybe the reflection from my glasses put the birds off. There were definitely fewer than usual.
Having said that I did see all the usual visitors with the exception of the Siskins. Bizarrely a Siskin was the only bird I saw on the feeders yesterday in that awful storm force wind.
I submitted my results and it was confirmed that my count was below average but I had recorded above average numbers of Wood Pigeons, unusual, and Goldfinches which I would have said we normally saw even more. Siskins, our other most frequent visitor in numbers didn't even feature on the list.
I only took a couple of pictures as the movement was sending them away. I like this one as it shows up the lovely yellow Witch Hazel ( Hamamelis) in the background.
When I’d finished I got a FaceTime call from Grace. Took a screen grab shot of Jude with her rainbow mermaid face paints they we’re going to Bath City Farm after Eda got back from her drama class. Very appropriate for seeing the animals!
Burns night tonight and Chris has been out and got the haggis!
Happy Burns Night to all celebrating.
( Last weekend in January thank goodness)
