Choose Joy

Axes, hatchets, stars, and knives

One of my friends wanted to throw things. Her husband and she were discussing divorce. They’ve decided not to legally divorce, at least not now, although both are seeing other people and living in different countries. But they’ve been having lots of, “discussions.”

I suggested a place in Baltimore where you can throw paint. She said she’d been thinking axes but paint was probably safer. Today the paint place cancelled and the replacement place she found let you throw axes too.

It was extremely cathartic. Even pulling the things out of the wood was cathartic.

By the rules you weren’t supposed to hit the rubber ducky projected on the wall, only the ducks. Well. A) we weren’t keeping score and competing. B) we wanted to hit the rubber ducky. C) rules are for straight people

Then we got to throw paint and even shoot each other with paint. It was body paint so if you got paint on each other it would be ok and we were wearing something on our hair, our shoes, and a big poncho, AND goggles.

The meeting at the synagogue about the summer showing was great. The synagogue is so beautiful I cried a little. It has many incredible details and they are old and you can feel the love and intention that went into selection and installation of every little bit of it.
