Crow
Today I took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch in the grounds of Astley Ainslie Hospital. This is a huge citizen science event which involves counting birds in any area over one hour over the weekend. It was organised by the Astley Ainslie Community Trust which wants the hospital site to be managed as a community asset. It's likely that the hospital and the grounds will be sold at some point in the future and the trust is keen that the local community is involved in decisions and that, although some of the site will likely be sold for housing, the community will retain a significant interest. However, the sale of the site seems currently to be on the back burner.
The small group that T and I went around in saw a number of birds, including this crow. Our best score was on goldfinches - the collective noun is a charm - isn't that lovely? There were about eight of them.
Afterwards we came back here and booked for a trip to the Isle of May in June. We did find a date and time that suited although a lot of the trips were sold out already.
