Life's Little Moments

I love wrens - to me, they always look cheerful which, in turn, makes me feel cheerful too.  As I sat huddled outside in the cold, bemoaning the lack of birds at the feeders, I heard the distinctive rattle of a wren and started craning my head to see where it might be - right in front of me, as it turned out.  Barely even had to crop this.  The common wren here, year around, is the Carolina Wren.  We also have Winter Wrens here this time of year, although almost never in our woods as they seem to prefer marshy areas.  And in the summer, we have the House Wrens who always managed to raise 4 or 5 broods in our nest boxes.  I know some people who are lucky enough to have Carolina wrens nest in flower pots, door wreaths and other miscellaneous semi-structures but ours always nest somewhere in the woods.

We had a nice long FT chat with my parents this morning.  After that, I was planning to take Jax for a walk but it was windy and I was feeling wimpy so we settled for some indoors activities and a little sortie in the yard instead.

Watching next weekend's weather closely as they are now predicting a snowstorm on Saturday which is the day I am scheduled to fly.  If flights get screwed up on Saturday, I will have to scrap the first part of my trip to Ft. Hood to visit nephew and family as there won't be enough time to see them and still get to Rockport for the beginning of the photo trip.  Well, it will be what it will be.

When I made white chili last month, I froze a batch of it and have now thawed it for tonight's dinner - looking forward to it!
