Eating, and shopping
I'm sure I've blipped this before - the Yee Sang tossing at the CNY Reunion lunch. We were at a restaurant somewhere in Cheras, 20 of us. It is always quite confusing who is there and of course I don't know the names of some of them, even after 14 years. This is the paternal side of the family and this year in addition to WH's parents, KF and WF, at the table there was WF's brother (#2 uncle?), his sister, Han, his other sister (whose name I was told last year but can't remember), her husband, his sister -in-law (who arrived very late with 2 cousins but didn't appear to talk to her husband, who hardly speaks anyway) and me. You'll note I was the only non Chinese speaking person at this table so most of the time hadn't a clue what was being said, though KF did try to keep up to speed and we talked about a few things, mainly the girls.
At the 'younger person's table' were #2 son, WH, the girls, WX (Eryi, who only arrived last night), WF (Siyi, sans new boyfriend whose name sounds like 'hanging cheese'), a second sister-in-law (the widowed, slightly mad one) and 3 cousins, though I'm not entirely sure who they were attached to.
Once the very late sister in law had arrived we tossed the fish salad (not a mainland Chinese thing, Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese) and then ate shark fin soup with crabmeat, fish, prawns in passionfruit sauce, pork ribs, chicken, fried rice and then glutinous rice balls filled with peanut butter. WH's parents don't do sweet so I got 2. It sounds a lot, but actually it's not as you don't get much of each dish. And of course it's accompanied by unending quantities of green tea. Then once it was eaten people exchanged the CNY gifts and distributed the ang pow to the unmarried ones and we left.
The girls, who'd stayed overnight at HK C, (and stayed there again tonight) went off to Midway in Siyi's car to go shopping. The 3 of us went back to HK B and chatted for a bit, discussing furniture and projectors. After the morning's gloom the sun had come out so I went home for a swim.
The empty pool lasted about 5 minutes and then about 10 Korean teenagers appeared. Good to see the pool used and I did get a swim and a bit of a lie in the sun as it moved west. Then a message from WH to say they were going to 1 Utama (world's 4th largest shopping mall) and did I want to come. I'd decided I need shoes for Saturday and I'd already done some on-line research in the morning and ruled out an online order due to the CNY holiday so off I went too.
I got what I wanted in the first shop I was in Padini, and then had a long wait for the other 2. Had a look at a few shops and bought another part of KF's birthday present in Parkson's. Luckily there was a seat and I got to see the amazing group doing the drumming display way down in the atrium. Eventually the other shoppers appeared (it was 8.30 p.m. by this time) and we went to Pad Veitz for dinner, very good food, then back to Padini as #1 son had seen a red top he liked but the check out queue was enormous so we left.
Back at my place I watched some more 'Silent Witness'. Somehow my earlier tiredness had dissipated.
