Storm Herminia
A South Easterly wind gusted in with plenty of moisture all the way from the plains of Spain.
A short walk around the base here to top up the bird feeders, plus give Dippy a good stretch revealed that there was no shelter whatsoever from the incessant winds.
Thinking that the short drive over to the Torridge valley would be very much more sheltered. Indeed it was even if lying water was quite deep in places.
Found the first frogspawn of the year and Lank the Heron was looking very alert and in good shape, probably ready to bring a few more Lanks into the world imminently. The sun shone and warmed up sheltered areas and tempted some people out of their homes mainly dog walkers.
Back to base to change into dry clothes and head to the 24 hour launderette which unfortunately was out of order. Plan B a short drive to Fremington quay for a short walk and explore the estuary edge.
Plenty of oystercatchers , redshanks and curlews. I bumped into a few people who I knew but hadn’t seen for quite some time and enjoyed the conversation.
Back home for the night being very aware that at 17:30 darkness hadn’t descended.
Lamb hotpot followed by a Christmas pudding and cream satisfied my appetite before reading one of the books which arrived earlier in the day.
Post card in extras department.
