Ear nose and not throat

This little gadget is not in fact a ray gun. It is one of those devices to deal with either unwanted hair in the ears or even nose, or even defuzz a jumper if you are careful. 
Doing your ears does leave you with a bit of a buzzing in the head, but at least you aren't sprouting like a seed potato!
