For The Love Of Lorne

We'd headed into town today for some bits and pieces and I was hoping to get a street shot or two but nothing materialised and it was only when we were in the Mall shopping centre, and remembered that it had an Iceland store, that we thought we should try on the off chance to see it if had any flat sausage. It had been our supplier of choice for this Scottish delicacy but a few years ago it suddenly disappeared from their freezers and looked like it would never return but after traipsing around the aisles, somewhat against hope, there it was - praise be!
We've always called it flat sausage but it can also be called square sausage or just "a slice" although its official moniker is Lorne sausage. The next bit of my blip is really for you non Scottish blippers out there:

Lorne sausage is a traditional Scottish food item made from minced meat, rusk and spices. Although it is termed a sausage, no case is used to hold the meat in shape, hence it is usually served in square slices from a formed block. It is a common component of a traditional Scottish breakfast.
It is thought the sausage is named after the region of Lorne of Argyll, advertisement for 'Lorne sausage' have been found in newspapers as early as 1882.

Therefore, today's image just had to be of our purchase - we bought four packets containing 8 slices each, just to be on the safe side, for the princely sum of £6.00 (!) - safely ensconced in our freezer. Of course we had one in a bun almost as soon as we got back in the door - utterly delicious! Absence had definitely made the heart grow fonder!
