Road Trip

Well, more of a rail trip - but we did take the car to the station.

We were going in to town to use a voucher for afternoon tea which has been waiting to be used for nearly 9 months.
I tried phoning to make a booking but couldn't get through to a real person so we decided to get the train and arrive after 12'oclock so we should fall into the 'afternoon' part of the deal and they shouldn't be too busy.

When we stepped out of the back door of the station my first thought was ... 'Well nobody is going to throw themselves off the North Bridge just now - not with all that hideous scaffolding and plastic sheeting' (It used to be a fairly popular spot to jump off and I have had to attend a couple).

The front of the venue we were going to has been 'done up' since the last time we have been there - but the Balmoral Hotel hasn't changed as far as I could see when  we took a seat.

It turned out that there had been problems with the phone and computer.
The next problem was that some of the ingredients for afternoon teas need to be ordered in and made up to order.
So it ended up we had a scone and a sausage roll to eat and I had a beer and SWMBO had a soft drink and will check the diary to go back.
The scone was huge and nice but the description 'rock cake' would have been a better description.
When SWMBO was paying I went to the loo. When I came back I was told that the price of my beer had been taken off the bill.
It was annoying that we had spent the time and money to get into town but the staff have to get 10/10 for their service.

Unfortunately we were sitting on the wrongt side of the train for me to try and pictures of the lovely light on the snow covered hills in Fife .... but I did try on the way back although the light wasn't nearly as good - and the longer lens would have been a help.
I did manage to get a couple of shots at the station where SWMBO's ex-Brownie Nina Nesbitt recorded herself playing guitar and singing Ed Sheeran's song 'The A Team'. That got her noticed by him and into the music industry (he even wrote/recorded a song dedicated to her).

The pictures taken start here and finish with the cabinet where they store the Mambo.

The only other thing I did today was make a big pot of soup.
