PEP BAND

At American high school sports the Pep Band is always there to lift up the crowd and get it into the game.  This was shot last night at the girl's basketball game. We have a very good pep band and the director has a magical ability to pull excellence out of the least member of the group.  Well done pep band.

My mother insisted that I play an instrument when I was in grade school and I had no choice.  They needed clarinet players so that was what they handed me (drums would have been preferable). I was in Mr. Sanfillipo's beginning class for 3 years and I never got much past Mary Had a Little Lamb...but I was pretty good at that.  You see.....it turns out that in order to get better at it one has to practice.  Well....I had chores to do.  Cows needed to be milked twice a day and we had 30 head and one Surge belly milker.  The rest was all hand yanking.  After that...there were pheasants that needed to be shot, rabbits and squirrels that needed to be shot and trout in the river that needed to be caught.  Who had time to practice?  But I do have a grudging admiration for anyone who has mastered any kind of instrument.  The closest I can come to that is playing the radio.
