Quod oculus meus videt

Gowbarrow Fell

A new walking partner today and we decided to head to Ullswater and Aira Force. I was hobbling to start with because of Achilles pain. I know I can walk despite the discomfort, yesterday only confirmed that view.

The walk started gently, traversing the fell in a northerly direction. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I thought the walk was through the park, but it suddenly dawned that we would end up on Gowbarrow Fell at 481 metres, one of the smaller Wainwright’s but still a good effort to reach, particularly for L, who prefers the flat paths to hilly ascents and descents. Fortunately we had food and drink and a couple of opportunities to rest.

It was a glorious weather and the views across the northern and eastern fells were lovely. I’ve added a couple of extras.

We weren’t quick, but it was still a lovely day. Now prepping for a dinner out at friends.
