academic boobs
I started the day working from home so I could travel to the Science Park at Adlershof in the East of Berlin to attend a meeting. When I arrived I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a blip. It's big boxy buildings with big, busy roads in between. I did find this architectural gem from the late 50s and early 60s. The concrete spheres were built to house labs to conduct material science experiments which require stable temperatures (isothermal conditions). They are spheres since they are the geometric shape with the smallest surface to volume ratio. Apparently, they never quite got them to work as intended. Eventually they were used for storage and parties. No they are unused but listed. The meeting was great, catching up with some people I have known for a while and meeting new people.
More pictures of the isothermal lab spheres on flickr.
