Old Brown Shoe

My favourite pair of DMs, not least because they only cost me £26 brand new (a combination of outlet shop sale and extra 10% off promotion) but the one downside is that they have a matte finish so can’t be conventionally polished.
For several years I have just tried to keep them clean but, as you can see from the “before” shoe on the right of the picture, they were now looking pretty scruffy.
We are fortunate to have a “traditional” cobbler in Kendal and he advised that if I took them to somewhere like Timpsons they could refurbish them, but it would probably cost around £30 - more than the shoes cost in the first place!
However, for a tenth of that price, he could supply a beeswax enriched cream of pretty much the right colour, which should cover the scuffs but not give an over-shiny finish. He even demonstrated how to apply it - a small amount at a time rubbed in with a finger tip. Not difficult to apply and finished result looks quite good. I’ll do the other shoe now and leave them both to fully dry overnight before buffing off with a soft cloth to complete the process. Should give me a few more years wear out of them.
