USAID people don’t have rigid start and stop hours but tend to work 7 am to 4 pm. Today at 4 pm my boss and I were asked to do something urgently. We managed to get it done - by 6 pm. The overlords want everyone’s job description and of course, all the people who would know where each one was were gone for the day. Of course, it feels nefarious and it is supposed to.

Tonight’s rumor is that our entire agency will be subsumed into another one and that they are taking down the logos in our building right now.

Russia bragged about their very scary hypersonic weapons. I was kind of suspicious, because so many other things they brag about turn out to be unimpressive. Ukraine is the first place these weapons have been used. Somehow Russia is having trouble producing them. They require advanced engineering and materials to withstand high heat. Sanctions. Ukraine keeps intercepting them and they don’t seem to be going as fast as they supposedly ought to be able to go.
