Celtic Connections Day 2 of 4

A slightly slow start to the day saw us heading for breakfast at the Riversyde cafe just after 11. It’s a very small cafe run by the most efficient twenty something lady and is very cheap for the city centre and serves the tastiest food. I really enjoyed my bacon and cheese sandwich served between two slices of eggy bread.

Nicely full we split up for the gentlemen to visit the hi-fi store and a couple of guitar shops whilst Linda and I went our separate ways to do a bit of shopping. I visited a few charity shops and ended up in good old M&S where a dress, some tights and underwear threw themselves at me so I had no choice but to buy them! I also managed to find a bargain blouse in Zara for the princely sum of £8 in the sale.

Back to the hotel to chill for an hour or two before we headed back out for an early dinner. We’d purchased vouchers for a restaurant called The Anchor Line and enjoyed 4 courses and a cocktail each for £69 per couple. We had been a little concerned that the portions wouldn’t be normal sized but we certainly weren’t disappointed. Delicious, generous portions and impeccable service.

A short walk too us to the Royal Concert Hall in good time for tonight’s entertainment, Transatlantic Sessions which has been going for 30 years. Bumped into one of fellow Rotary members as we were going to our seats.

A wonderful evening of music and sounds from a variety of artists including Louden Wsinwright III, Julie Fowlis, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, Niall McCabe, Aly Bain and others too numerous to mention. Not sure how the gentleman in my collage managed to fall asleep! Perhaps cruel of me to take his picture though.

We had hoped to meet up with other friends before the show for a catch up but they’d fallen asleep in the afternoon and barely made it for the start so instead we met them for a drink afterwards. In bed for a more respectable 11.45.
