That Will Do!

Early this morning (by our standards) found us back in Peebles at the car dealership for a final attempt at fixing the dash cam, this time following instructions from the Honda Technical Department. It was expected to take an hour or so.

This left us free to wander down the Eddleston Water (aka Cuddy Burn) to the Old Town Bridge and potter along the High Street, dipping into the occasional shop and into Costa for coffee (they being the only such establishment open at such an hour).

Having faffed about for a suitable period we ambled down Northgate, stopping to admire the drinking fountain in a neat little park. (Despite the lion, the foundry was named as Glenfield Coy, of Kilmarnock). The large plaque seen behind gives a detailed account of the various positions in which the Mercat Cross has been placed, removed and repositioned over the years, it now stands close to its original site at the junction of High Street, Eastgate and Northgate, i.e., not near this plaque. There are also four stone panels, with similar explanation, standing close by.

We continued our perambulations towards the car dealer but were stopped by a line of police tape across the road, with all the signs of a serious incident having taken place and we duly escaped down a vennel to the safety of Cuddyside, which led us back to the car, with its miraculously repaired dash cam.

By way of celebration we drove down to Stobo, the over the pretty Dreva road to Broughton, from there to Biggar and thence to Miss Flum's to sample a loaf she had made.

The bread was not yet cooked so we left it to its own devices (a bread maker) and nipped up to Cibo for lunch - under new ownership but as delicious as ever - then some basic shopping for both households, followed by a welcome cuppa and reacquaintance with her feline neighbours.

We crawled home, as the sun was beginning to set, for a quiet evening.
